Festive Ways to Celebrate With Your Dog!

‘Tis the season for festive holiday fun, and whether it’s their first or 10th holiday with your family, the holidays are not the same without your pets! With a lot of us at home this holiday season, here are some creative and festive ways to include your fur-children in your celebrations this year!

Snap Some Festive Photos

The infamous holiday picture is a staple of the season. Including your pets can be a great way to add some fun to those photos! Pop your lab in a santa hat and start snapping. Using a squeaky toy or small treat can help keep attention on you. If you have a festive sweater for them, put it on to make the pictures even better!
Did you give the gift of some new toys or treats for your dog? Why not let them open them up and record all of the cuteness. Your social media will thank you!

Learn a New Trick

Take this time to teach your dog a fun party trick – and be sure to wow (via Zoom of course!) your friends and family this holiday season. If your pup constantly showers you with kisses, it’s a great opportunity to teach them to kiss you on command. One of the easiest tricks to teach is to ‘shake hands’, this is especially true if your dog already paws you when they want something. Presenting a small handful of treats will make your curious pup paw at your hand.

Take a Walk or Drive to Look at the Holiday Lights

Take your car-ride loving doggy for an evening adventure on Christmas Eve to see all of your neighbors’ beautiful displays! Besides getting some fresh air and exercise, going for a long walk can help them behave themselves while everyone opens their presents.

Make Delicious Dog Friendly Treats

We all enjoy freshly baked holiday cookies, and your pup is no different! Make their holiday season bright this year with a batch of treats specially made for them. Check out our favorite dog treat recipe with easy ingredients that your dog will love, or find some festive treats at local dog bakeries in the area! One of our favorites is Giggy Bites in Chadds Ford!

Give Their Unused Items to Dogs in Need

‘Tis the season of giving! If your spoiled pooch has a pile of toys they do not touch or sweaters they’ve outgrown during quarantine, shelters around the area would be happy to give them new life. Consider donating pet food, treats, towels, blankets, collars, leashes, toys, and old food bowls. Wagsworth has a collection bin that goes to local rescue organizations!

No matter how you’re celebrating this year, there are lots of ways your dog and cat can feel included in the spirit and fun of the holiday season!
